A Few Baseball Tips To Help You Master The Game

By The 9-Innings

You will need to dedicate yourself to this sport. You have to do your research, practice and watch the sport. These tips will help you become a better player all around.

During team tryouts, do not forget to always be professional and respectful. Be polite and friendly as you meet other players and coaches. This works well for you by showing your maturity.

To get into the right batting stance, send weight to the rear foot. Therefore, if you are left-handed, you should shift your weight to your left foot. When you swing, extra power will come from your rear foot.

TIP! Slide your weight onto your back foot when you are batting. If you’re a right-handed batter, your weight should be on the right foot.

When pitching, it is essential to learn how the ball should be held and thrown properly. Start off by gripping the seams of the baseball with your middle finger. Next, put your thumb on top of the other seam. This will help you grip the ball properly, allowing you to maximize your speed, distance and accuracy.

Always remember to be safe when playing any type of sport. That’s true especially for baseball. You should always be aware of where the ball will be so you don’t get hurt. Errant balls can cause lost teeth if you don’t pay attention. Also, a player sliding into a base can injure your legs.

Know where everyone is on the field. A lot of collisions can be prevented by just knowing where all players are all the time. When players collide, head injuries can occur. The best way to not run into someone is to allow people to know when you’re going to go after the ball.

Act like a professional at tryouts. Whether for little league or a school, remember your manners when meeting teammates and your coach. That shows them you’ll be a joy to be around.

TIP! Whenever you are trying out, be respectful. It does not matter how big the team is, or how high it ranks in the league tables, you need to make sure that you are polite and courteous when meeting your teammates and couch.

Make sure you always run out every play. You want to teach the teammates you have that you’re someone that’s good at what they do. A hustler can change a losing team into a winning team. Aim to be that type of person that others look to as a difference maker.

10 Minutes

When coaching baseball, keep a regular practice routine. Warm up before and after practices, spend time working on your team skills and practice individual skills. Then, have them run the bases for five minutes followed by 10 minutes of team defense and situational drills. The last 10 minutes should focus on drills for position-specific defense and cool down. Conclude with a brief team discussion.

Just like every other sport, safety first needs to be your mantra. Baseball can cause a lot of serious injuries. Just know where the baseball is so that you don’t sustain injuries. One ball to the mouth could send teeth flying. Also, make sure you keep your eye on the men on base as they can cause you injury.

TIP! Safety is vital when playing all types of sports. Baseball is not excluded from this.

As an outfielder you need to focus on who the batter is. Someone who hits right-handed typically sends the ball out in left field. Conversely, a player standing on the left side will hit the base towards center field. Knowing the tendencies of each hitter can help you position yourself in the outfield to have a better chance at catching the ball.

Lights and sun can both make it hard following the baseball. To avoid seeing spots, learn how to find the ball without directly glaring into the sun or the stadium lighting. You get the best results by using peripheral vision.

Learn how to use your glove to block the blinding sun and stay focused on the ball. Raising the glove over your eyes works to block the sun’s intensity while allowing you to watch to ball as well.

Batting helmets need to be worn when you hit the ball. The reason you need a helmet on is so that you don’t injure your head. Good batting helmets will also have a shield to protect your face from poorly pitched balls or unpredictable foul ball hits.

TIP! Batting helmets must be worn when hitting the baseball. These helmets help prevent many head injuries.

To get the best stretch possible while playing first, place your foot on the base right below the hand you throw with. Keep your foot on the base, step out with your other foot and stretch out, reaching out your gloved hand toward the ball as it comes to you.

Hopefully after all is said and done you’re able to get out there to practice your game playing skills. Becoming a better player takes time and knowledge. Be sure to apply these tips so you can play your best!
