By The 9-Innings

Have you ever been curious about baseball? Well you probably are because you wouldn’t be here right now. Maybe you’re just confused about the rules or don’t understand why people enjoy it so much? No matter your reasons for being here, your curiosity has told you that baseball is a sport you want to learn more about. Keep reading to learn some interesting baseball tid-bits.

If you’re serious about baseball, practice every day. The pros make baseball look easy, but they get to that point through hard work. It takes a daily commitment to any sport to be great at it, and baseball is no exception. Decide the position you desire to play and practice hard.

For kids in baseball, make sure they their hands are placed properly for hitting. The top hand on the bat needs to be sitting near the same height as their rear shoulder, about 3 to 6 inches from that rear shoulder. Their rear elbow needs to be around 45-degrees. The front elbow needs to be lower and about even with the back elbow.

When batting, don’t be afraid to take a few pitches, especially against a pitcher you are less familiar with. Those pitches will give you an idea of the pitchers speed and the ball’s action to the plate. Plus, the additional pitches will help wear out the pitcher over the course of the game. A tired pitcher makes more mistakes.

Practice as often as possible to maximize your potential. Normally, a team will warm up during batting practice for a good ten minutes of stretching and throwing, then move on to a longer period of fielding and hitting drills. Then, a few minutes of running the bases and ten or so of situational practice will be ideal. Ten more minutes of position-specific drills and then do a cool down. Conclude with a brief team discussion.

Ground balls will be affected by how the grass has been mowed. If the grass is cut into a certain pattern in the outfield, the ball may change course. Learning how the ball will react as it rolls across the lines can help you predict where it will head.

If you are beginning baseball player, try to avoid using an uppercut at the end of your swing. This is a swing that starts low and ends high. Beginners should use a level swing that betters their chances at making contact with the ball. When your skills get more advanced, you can start re-introducing a little bit of the uppercut for some lifting action for a more powerful swing.

You could lose sight of the baseball in the bright sun or glare of the stadium lights. You need to learn how to keep the sun and the stadium lights out of your eyes, but still keep your eyes on the ball. Just use peripheral vision.

Don’t be afraid to get your uniform dirty. Baseball is a game played in grass and dirt. You aren’t playing to 100% if you come out of any game with your uniform as pristine as it was when you first put it on. Make it a goal to get as dirty as possible.

When pitching, you have to remember that focus is everything. As soon as you are going into the kick position to pitch the ball, you must absolutely remember that you never take your eyes away from the catcher’s glove. This is to ensure that you have proper aim when releasing the ball.

Now that you read the above article, you should be confused about baseball anymore. It really is just a simple game between two teams of 9, and you can enjoy it even more by studying the tips you just read. Keep them close by, and soon you will see how much this game means to you.
