The grass in the outfield affects how ground balls roll. Lines on the outfield grass can greatly affect the direction the balls rolls. Sometimes, a field is patchy and can make ground balls difficult.
Personalize your new baseball glove well before the new season starts. If you are fortunate enough to have new equipment for the upcoming season, put the time into working your glove. Throwing the ball into your glove helps. Break leather in by using leather softener. Using your fist, punch the weave. A broken in glove will work much better in practice.
The sun or stadium lights can cause you to lose track of the baseball. If you don’t want to see a bunch of spots, you have to look for where the ball is without staring into blinding things. Try using peripheral vision for spotting the ball.
Consider shifting your weight to your back foot when you need to maximize the power in your batting stance. If you are a right-handed batter, then you will want to have all your weight on the right foot, and tighten your thigh muscle in that leg, too. This provides extra power coming from the rear foot during your swing.
Your glove can help keep the sun out of your eyes when trying to catch the ball. You can block it by raising the glove over your head and above your eyes.
To get the best stretch possible while playing first, place your foot on the base right below the hand you throw with. Put your glove out toward the ball and move your other foot out as well, but make sure you keep one foot on base.
When you pitch, don’t forget the ball is in play as soon as you release it. Sometimes, it will reach the glove of the catcher and then be thrown back to you. However, your defensive skills are needed if contact is made, and you also have to react quickly in order to protect yourself at times.
