Baseball Tips And Advice For The Beginner

By The 9-Innings

Navigating your way with the sport of baseball can be a little overwhelming considering how much there is to know. However, this article is going to simplify a few things for you by providing you with some direct advice you can take with you to the field. So be prepared to take some action after you get done reading.

Make sure you grip the ball properly and toss it correctly when you’re learning how to pitch the ball. First, you have to have the seam right under your middle finger. The thumb should be on the opposing seam. This helps you get the best grip on the ball for throwing it effectively.

Always wear protective equipment when playing baseball. Just like any sport, injuries happen in baseball. Especially when batting, you need to protect your head. That means you need to wear a helmet whenever you enter the batter’s box. One poor pitch can mean a fastball hitting you in the noggin. That’s at minimum a ringing headache with the potential for a concussion or worse. Be safe.

While in a comfortable batting position, keep your arms away from your body. Your elbows should be up and away, practically parallel to the ground. Hold the bat at shoulder level and make sure you don’t drop your rear elbow. Practice your stance in front of a large mirror to ensure that your elbows are properly positioned.

Keep your head up, your eyes level and focus on the ball when batting. You should be looking over your front arm. If you shift your eyes or move your head, your rear shoulder will shift in reaction. Remaining focused on the ball and keeping your head immobile will give you better timing and more consistency.

If the catcher has to go to his knees to stop a ball, you should try to steal a base. Whenever a catcher goes down on his knees, he must scoop the ball up. As soon as the ball hits the ground take off running. Most times, you will be rewarded with a stolen base.

When you’re running to bases, don’t ignore the base coaches and their signs. Remember, the base coaches have the benefit of a better view of the whole field. As you run the bases all your attention should be towards the coach and not where the ball is. Let them act as your eyes. If they say stop, hold up at the nearest base. When your coach gives you the signal to go, run as quickly as possible, touching each base with your left foot.

When swinging a bat in baseball, make sure that you follow-through with your swing. Your bat’s momentum, whether or not there is contact, helps you follow through. Without following through, there won’t be much power since the swing may slow down prior to making contact. This is why the follow-through is essential.

Befriend your team even after practice. To become a real ball club, you need to find common ground with everyone on the team. You need to build real friendships. So find time to go to the movies together, or grab a few slices or pizza or a burger. The friendships you build will translate to the field.

A knuckleball can be thrown by gripping the seams. That way, you can let go without adding spin, helping it go with the wind and confusing the batter. Also, the batter will have a tough time hitting it.

What do you think now that you have read this article? Are you ready to play some baseball? The advice given to you should help you when it comes to practicing your skills and helping out your team. Baseball is a sport that is about fundamentals and those shining moments.
