Batter Up! A Few Helpful Baseball Tips

By The 9-Innings

There are so many sports that people play, but one sport stands out among all the others and that is baseball. If you are curious as to why this is such a great sport to watch and play, then you should read the following article. Below you will find many great tips that come from the pros so you can really enjoy the game.

If you are having trouble keeping your players’ attention during practice, change things up. It can be boring to do the same routine over and over. Alternate the drills to keep practices exciting.

Make sure you use the proper grip when hitting a baseball. You should go with a “standard” grip. The middle knuckles of your hands should be on the bat. Make sure the bat is across the callus line of your fingers instead of the back of your palms. This grip betters quickness and bat speed.

Always wear protective equipment when playing baseball. Just like any sport, injuries happen in baseball. Especially when batting, you need to protect your head. That means you need to wear a helmet whenever you enter the batter’s box. One poor pitch can mean a fastball hitting you in the noggin. That’s at minimum a ringing headache with the potential for a concussion or worse. Be safe.

If you’re into stealing bases, practice taking leads off of bases. Taking leads means you need to know not only your own speed, but also the speed of the pitcher’s pick off move, the speed of his delivery to the plate, and the speed and accuracy of the catcher’s arm. There’s a lot to consider that’ll affect how much lead you take.

When swinging the bat, aim for the top center area of the ball. This will keep your bat aligned properly and will make it more likely that you will hit the ball every time. However if you want to hit home runs, aim for the bottom of the ball. You may miss more often, but your balls will get the height they need.

Always follow the signs given to you by your manager or base coach. Remember, baseball is a team sport. It’s not just about your statistics. Sometimes the coach may give you a sign you don’t like, but trust in the fact that it’s likely the best move given a lot of different factors.

Make sure you always run out every play. This mentality can rub off on the team. That is the type of leader that changes a game in the clubhouse. You want to be the person that’s seen as the real difference maker.

If a pitcher is getting the better of you in an at bat, step out of the batters box. You need to do whatever you can do to throw off the pitcher’s timing. A few seconds breather will not only help you get your mind focused, it might also break up the current zone that the pitcher is in.

You can lose sight of the baseball because of the stadium lights or the sun. So you do not end up blinded with spots, you need to follow the ball without looking into lights or the sun. Utilize peripheral vision as a way to find the ball.

As stated in the above article, you don’t have to be a professional baseball player to enjoy the sport. It is so much fun to play with friends and also watch on television, that anyone can love the game. With these great tips from the pros, your enjoyment in the sport is really about to take off!
