Batter Up! A Few Helpful Baseball Tips

By The 9-Innings

Do you enjoy watching a game of baseball? Perhaps you are just a fan of the sport. Either way, the only way to become a real baseball expert is by gaining as much information as you can. This article is going to give you important information to help you become a baseball pro.

You can practice alone. A pitching machine allows you to set the speed of the ball. By loading several baseballs into the machine, you can practice hitting without needing a pitcher. This electronic machine is perfect for those who wish to practice baseball alone. Pitching machines can be picked up at your local sporting goods store.

Do you have any children or grandchildren that are interested in playing baseball? As in other areas of life, we want to do all we can to help our kids experience success. To develop a quick swing, the hands, wrists and forearms have to be strong. You don’t have to buy expensive equipment to help kids develop better muscle strength. Give your child a tennis ball to squeeze on while watching TV. The tennis ball provides enough resistance to strengthen the hand, wrist and forearm.

When batting, don’t be afraid to take a few pitches, especially against a pitcher you are less familiar with. Those pitches will give you an idea of the pitchers speed and the ball’s action to the plate. Plus, the additional pitches will help wear out the pitcher over the course of the game. A tired pitcher makes more mistakes.

Pick the right bat. Pick out one that is not too heavy for you. Beginners should use lighter bats. It is pretty rare to see someone swing a bat that is “too light” because there is a trick called “choking up” to make bats lighter. This involves placing hands about an inch or two up the bat.

Learn how to stride properly in baseball. If you use your right hand, your left leg should be used to pick things up when you release the pitch. This is the reverse for left-handers. Push your feet forward a foot or so to increase your momentum as the ball is coming toward you. If you’re a child or a smaller adult, you may stride a less than twelve inches.

Practice throwing the baseball every day. It may seem obvious, but some ignore throwing for the call of the batter’s cage. They think baseball is all about the big hit. It’s about much more, and a strong arm can mean a lot of runs saved over the course of a season.

Make sure to check out the grass and roughness of the field. Lines on the outfield grass can greatly affect the direction the balls rolls. Pay attention to how grounders roll so you will know where the baseball will roll to.

To catch a fly ball that is going to land behind you, take a first step back with one foot so that you start heading to the place where the ball is going to land. If you step around with the other foot first, you slow yourself down, making it harder to get to the ball.

Putting the foot on the same side you throw from on the base can help you get more from your stretch. Reach toward the throw, stretching your glove to meet the ball. Step with your opposite foot to the baseball, stretching and keeping that first foot touching the base.

In conclusion, whether you like playing baseball or just enjoy watching it, the key to becoming an expert on the sport is doing research. Articles like the one you read above will help you reach this goal. Use these tips wisely and everyone will be coming to you for baseball help!
