Sliding is an important skill that many baseball players do not know how to do. You cannot be afraid of the dirt. A perfect slide involves timing. You want your foot to hit the base as quickly as possible. Practice sliding daily until you can accurately judge when to begin your slide for maximum distance.

Your stride is a crucial aspect of baseball. If you bat right handed, you can lift your left leg up when expecting the pitch. If you bat left-handed, you will lift your right leg. If the pitch arrives near you, build momentum by heading forward a foot. Younger and smaller players should stride somewhat less, maybe 9 inches.

If you are beginning baseball player, try to avoid using an uppercut at the end of your swing. This is a swing that starts low and ends high. Beginners should use a level swing that betters their chances at making contact with the ball. When your skills get more advanced, you can start re-introducing a little bit of the uppercut for some lifting action for a more powerful swing.

To help you stay focused on the ball when running towards it, run on your tiptoes. If you run and allow your heel to hit the ground, you will jar your body. This jarring will make your eyes lose focus on the ball. To keep this from happening run on your tiptoes.

The sun or stadium lights can cause you to lose track of the baseball. To avoid seeing spots, it is vital to know the best way to find the baseball without having to stare at the stadium lights or the sun. For optimum results, spot the baseball by using your peripheral vision.

If the sun is blinding you and the ball is headed straight for you, shield your eyes with your glove. You can block it by raising the glove over your head and above your eyes.

To hit a baseball on a line, make sure to keep your swing level. If you send your bat in an uppercut at the ball, you are much more likely to pop the ball up, making it easy for an outfielder to catch. A level swing produces a line drive, which is much more likely to produce a base hit.

Introduce sprinting in your warm up sessions. Sprinting is an integral part of success in baseball. When a ball is hit, the fast sprint is down the base line to first. You will will have to beat out a ball that is thrown a lot quicker than speed you run. Therefore, you need to take off quickly and run as fast as possible.

For the most part, gloves are now designed for a specific position. If you normally play one particular position, get a versatile glove custom made for that position. Try on different sizes until you find the one that fits best. Make sure the glove is well made from high-quality leather.
