Try to hit the ball in play rather than trying to hit home runs every time if you want to have a higher batting average. You want to hit the ball back towards where the pitcher. If the ball is hit high in the air, it becomes easier to catch.

TIP! To build up your batting average, shoot for hitting the ball at the fence, not over it. The idea is to have the ball get back to its original point.

During team tryouts, do not forget to always be professional and respectful. It always pays to be polite to the new coach and fellow players no matter what kind of team you are trying for. This shows your maturity, which almost always benefits you.

Generally speaking, a good baseball practice should consist of a ten minute warm-up followed by twenty minutes of team and individual hitting drills. After doing this, run the bases for five minutes, and then do team defense with situation drills. Then, work on your defensive skills to sharpen your range. End the practice with a brief team meeting.

To boost the power of a batting stance, shift weight to that back foot. If you are a right-handed batter, then you will want to have all your weight on the right foot, and tighten your thigh muscle in that leg, too. Upon swinging, added power can thus be gained from the back foot.

Make sure to use your glove to block the sun on the field. Keeping your glove above the level of your eyes will block the brightness, and still allows you to keep an eye on the ball.

Do not reach across the body when catching a grounder. Instead, you will want to quickly move left or right in order to get your glove right in the path of the ball. Trying to do otherwise may cause the ball to hit you on the side of the glove.

Stay professional and show respect when auditioning for a team you’d like to play with. Behaving politely will always pay off when you’re meeting new players and coaches, whether you’re joining a neighborhood pickup game or a school team. That shows them you’ll be a joy to be around.

When you are up to bat, never be afraid of sacrificing yourself. Being a team player may require it of you. You want to win through solid play rather than showing off and trying to get a home run every time.
