Keep From Striking Out With These Helpful Baseball Tips

By The 9-Innings

Have you ever watched professional baseball and wondered how players are able to do what they do? If so, don’t worry; you are about to read an article that will give you tips to get a better prospective of this beloved sport. With this knowledge, you will be able to know what is truly going on in a game, whether you want to watch one or play one.

If you want to raise your batting average, focus on hitting towards the fence and not necessarily hitting over the fence. The idea is to hit the ball in the direction in which it came. If the ball goes up, it’ll be easy to catch.

Safety comes first in all sports. This is especially true for baseball. Just know where the baseball is so that you don’t sustain injuries. If not careful, you could get hit by a ball and lose a tooth. Also, make sure you keep your eye on the men on base as they can cause you injury.

When coaching baseball, there are a few things you will need to have close at hand. Be certain you keep a good first aid kit, properly stocked and at the ready. Bring along plenty of water and electrolyte drinks to help players avoid dehydration. Have your practice plan ready for each day with detailed drills and broken into manageable time segments. Naturally, you must be certain of having all the right equipment.

Keep both of your eyes on the pitcher when you play baseball. This helps you to see them better versus just using one eye. The earlier you can pick up on the ball, the better your chances are at being successful. Never take your eyes off that ball while you prepare to swing.

When catching a fly ball, use both hands on the glove. It may be tempting just to use your glove hand, but that may lead to an unforeseen error if you’re careless. Your better bet is to position yourself under the ball, and trap the ball in your glove with your free hand once it hits the glove.

Check the signs before you run around the bases. Do not forget that the base coaches can see the entire field. If you are running to base, focus on the your base coaches and not on the ball. Allow the base coach to tell you whether to run or stay. If they give the signal to stop, end your run at then next base. If they waive you to keep coming, then make sure you run hard.

To get the best stretch possible while playing first, place your foot on the base right below the hand you throw with. Reach towards the throw, step with your opposite foot and keep your other foot on base.

To throw a curve ball, place both your index and middle fingers along a seam of the baseball. As you throw the pitch, slide your fingers down toward the ground in a clockwise direction if you are right-handed (counterclockwise if you are left-handed). This motion gives the pitch its curve.

Right-handers should angle the bat towards first base to make sure you don’t bunt it directly straight forward. If you primarily use your left hand, switch up those bases. Getting your bat angled right will make sure the bunt is fair while keeping the ball from the pitcher.

You have just read an article about baseball that should give you a better picture of how baseball players succeed at this sport. Whether it’s playing baseball or just watching it, having this knowledge will allow you to get a clear picture as to what is going on. Use these tips to turn this sport into your passion.
