Learn What You Have To Know About Baseball

By The 9-Innings

Baseball is a sport that is played throughout the world but still many people are confused as to why it is so popular. Some see the game as very boring, while others see it as a lot of fun. If you would like to read about what makes it a special sport, then continue to the following article.

Try to be respectful to your new coach during tryouts. Always be polite to your teammates and coaches, whether you are playing professionally or in little league. Dealing with the other players courteously is a sign of maturity, and it really has no down side.

Always hustle to first base, even if you think you have made an out. You never know what could happen with fielder; he could drop the ball or throw it away. By running as fast as you can, you may be able to get a base hit you did not expect.

Always follow the signs given to you by your manager or base coach. Remember, baseball is a team sport. It’s not just about your statistics. Sometimes the coach may give you a sign you don’t like, but trust in the fact that it’s likely the best move given a lot of different factors.

When batting, don’t be afraid to take a few pitches, especially against a pitcher you are less familiar with. Those pitches will give you an idea of the pitchers speed and the ball’s action to the plate. Plus, the additional pitches will help wear out the pitcher over the course of the game. A tired pitcher makes more mistakes.

Don’t let a losing streak get to you. Losing streaks happen in every sport, but in baseball luck can play a very big factor on any given day. Losing streaks can be prolonged over many games. Never let it get you down. Approach each game with an air of self confidence and soon you’ll beat that slump.

If you are in the outfield, learn to read the ball. With practice, you can know approximately where the ball will land each time the ball is hit. Carefully, watch the pitcher so you know the speed of the ball when it crosses the plate. By simply knowing the speed you can judge how far the ball will be hit.

Don’t be afraid to get your uniform dirty. Baseball is a game played in grass and dirt. You aren’t playing to 100% if you come out of any game with your uniform as pristine as it was when you first put it on. Make it a goal to get as dirty as possible.

Putting the foot on the same side you throw from on the base can help you get more from your stretch. Reach the glove out towards that throw coming up, stepping using your other foot and stretching while you keep your first foot touching the base.

Introduce sprinting in your warm up sessions. Sprinting is a big part of baseball. The run to first base following a hit is always a flat-out sprint. The ball can fly faster than you can run, so you have to be quick.

Look at a right-handed pitcher’s left foot to prevent him from being able to pick you off. When his left foot is picked up and is swinging behind the rubber, the pitcher has to pitch. Otherwise, it’s a balk and you get to move up to second.
