If you want to up your batting average, attempt hitting the ball at the fence rather than over it. Essentially, you hope the ball goes back from where it came. If your hit goes up in the air, it is simple to catch.

TIP! To build up your batting average, shoot for hitting the ball at the fence, not over it. You just want the baseball heading back to the place where it started.

Always be on time for tryouts and practice, and remain professional and friendly. Whether it’s a school team or a little league team, you always want to remember to be polite when you’re meeting your coach and teammates. This shows your maturity, which almost always benefits you.

Always remember to be safe when playing any type of sport. That’s true especially for baseball. Always know where the ball is to help protect yourself from injury. One ball to the mouth could send teeth flying. You can also hurt your legs by sliding into base.

Everyone at bat must wear a batting helmet. Head injuries can happen easily if you don’t put on your helmet. Look for a helmet that has a face guard. This will protect you from a bad pitch or foul ball.

Be the best at hustling on the team. You want to be the type of person whose work ethic rubs off on your teammates. These leaders can improve a team’s game. You can be the player who makes the difference on your team.

TIP! Become the number one hustler on your baseball team. Your ethics could easily rub off and improve those of your teammates.

Make sure you know where each baseball player is located. Having a good idea of the location of each player during the game is how you can avoid most collisions. When the players collide, they can get injured. The easiest way to not collide with other players is to call them off when you’re close to the baseball.

Know how to stride properly in baseball. If you pitch right handed, then pick up your left leg a bit as the pitch is being released. Left-handed folks should do the opposite. Push your feet forward a foot or so to increase your momentum as the ball is coming toward you. Younger people should keep their stride forward below a foot, and for adult players, a foot is ideal.

If you are playing in the outfield, you should pay close attention to where the batter stands. Left field will see a lot of action from right-handed batters. Left handed batters usually hit to the right field. Knowing how batting works will allow you to figure out where you can expect the ball to go when the pitch gets thrown.

Learn correct stride for baseball. If you pitch right handed, then pick up your left leg a bit as the pitch is being released. Lefties do this on the opposite leg. As the pitch comes closer, you’re going to propel yourself forward with momentum to hit the ball. Younger and smaller players should stride somewhat less, maybe 9 inches.

TIP! Stride is very important to baseball. For example, as a right-handed pitcher, you should be picking up your left leg some when releasing the pitch.

Take the time to break your baseball glove in long before practice season starts. Whenever you get a new glove, work the glove to help it become subtle. Toss the ball in the new glove. You can use leather softener in it to break its leather in. Use your fist to punch the weave. In practice, you’ll see that a glove that has been broken in is more effective.

Sunlight can make it hard to keep track of the ball. So you don’t get blinded by the light, learn how to find the ball without looking into the stadium lights or sun. You get the best results by using peripheral vision.

Your glove can block the sun’s glare as you catch a ball. By lifting up your glove to where your eyes are, you can keep the sun at bay so you can concentrate on where the baseball is going.

When you are working the outfield, always watch the batter. A batter who is right handed typically hits towards left field. Left handed batters usually hit to the right field. Knowing these basic things helps you predict the ball’s direction.
